On 20 July 2014 in Napier, aged 85 years. Beloved husband of Valerie Mary and loving father of Susan Peppiatt (Kerikeri), Jennifer Moates (London), stepfather of Kim DeBoer (Chicago), Lisa Toi (Matakana) and Gretchen Jenkyns (Kandos NSW).

A celebration of Jack’s life was held at St Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Tennyson Street Napier, on Thursday 24 July 2014.

In Lieu of flowers a donation to Cranford Hospice would be appreciated and can be left at www.cranfordhospice.org.nz

I did have the pleasure of meeting Jenny & Susan's father when he stayed with Jenny in London. I even had the dubious pleasure of hearing his snoring during the night when he stayed in the flat above mine in Hammersmith. His appetite for a good life was immediately apparent and he will, I'm sure be missed by family and friends. I will write to Jenny & look forward to seeing her on her return to England. Meanwhile I am thinking of her and her family and I send my love and sincere sympathy. Helen White

I never had the pleasure of meeting Jack Moates, but had a very vivid picture of him and his enormous zest for life through stories I heard of him through Jenny, our very good friend in England. I was deeply impressed by reports from Jenny of his spirited approach to dealing with ageing and illness. Thinking of you all in NZ. Linda, John and all the Hunt family.

To Jack; A lovely Gentleman. A pleasure to have known and worked with at Vaughan's Seed.
So Sad to hear of his passing.
Jack was a Hearty and Hardy Spirit to All he came in contact with. He will be missed and Heaven will have another Splendid Gardener! Safe Journey to the Gates Mr. Moates!
