Beloved husband of the late Eva for 58 years. Loved and respected father and father-in-law of Dean and Carol, Sandra and Steve, and Glenn (Pete).  Loving Dindin and Grandad Charlie to Brad and Julia, Stacey and Sumukh, Scott and Alex, Brent, and Emily. Great Grandad to Layla and Madelyn.

He did it his way, Trooper to the end.

A special thank you for the wonderful care given by the staff of the Cardiology Ward and ED of Hastings Hospital and the Cardiology Ward of Wellington Hospital. A celebration of Charlie’s life was held at the Napier Sailing Club, West Quay, Ahuriri, on Thursday, December 14, 2017 at 10.30am, followed by private cremation. In lieu of flowers a donation in Charlie’s memory to the Salvation Army can be left at the service.  A tribute to Charlie or messages for his Family can be left at www.dunstalls.co.nz or  C/- PO Box 1055, Napier.

Charlie worked with my Dad, Tom at the Ministry of Works for many years. Although Dad has been gone for over 20 years, Charlie still visited my mum, Connie at least once a year as she is confined at Princess Alexandra. He was her only visitor that is'nt family and we will remember him and appreciate the kindness he showed to her. Unfortunately she is very incapacitated and was unable to attend the funeral.
He was also admired for his part in instigating the return of the War Memorial which did'nt go unnoticed with his clever letters to the HB Today to draw public attention to it, well done.
Certainly a life well lived and fit and active to the end.

Pleasure knowing you Charlie. Thank you for the time you spent with Dad, and for the books and plastic bags you would pop into the shop. Your smile and cheerfulness will be missed. My condolences to your family.
