Passed away peacefully on Saturday 16 July 2022. Aged 87 years. Beloved husband of Iris (deceased). Dearly loved father and father-in-law of George and Bibi, Zoie (deceased), Lisa and Ben, and Justin (deceased). Cherished grandfather of Anzac, Grace, Kyra, Caitlin and Zavier. Loved brother and brother-in-law of Stathi and Beth and Phyllis and loved uncle to his many nieces and nephews.

Safely home in perfect joy and beauty in the Everlasting Light.

A service for Nicholas was held at Waiapu Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, Browning Street, Napier on Thursday 21 July 2022 at 1.30pm followed by burial at Wharerangi Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Nicholas's memory to the Heart Foundation www.heartfoundation.org.nz or Neurological Foundation www.neurological.org.nz would be appreciated. To George & Lisa, we were so saddened to hear of Uncle Nick's passing. We will always remember his hospitality & caring on our family holidays together in Oz & NZ and looking after Mum when she would come & visit. He had a heart of gold to be able to live with three Irish sisters (Mum, Aunty Iris & Aunty Phyllis) when they got together. Rest Peacefully Uncle Nick.

Thinking of you all. I have fond memories of Uncle Nick visiting Mum (his cousin) and Dad in Wellington. The Karantzes & Gallates had a very special bond, especially in those early years where they were united by their familiy ties as well as a shared history of migration from Ithaca to Australia and NZ. Our deepest condolences.

Very saddened to learn that my God-father Nicholas Gallate has passed away. He was an exceptional man who touched the lives of many people. I will always carry fond memories of my Nono Nick, Nona Iris, his Mum Nona Gallate and family I have met over the years. My condolences to all of his family. With deep regret I will not be able to be at the funeral to pay my respects. May he rest in peace - from his God-son Peter (Gigi) Boolieris

Hi George, Lisa and families.
Laurence and I used to live across the road from your Mum and Dad (I also worked with Iris), and had lots of great times with them.
We are so sorry to hear of Nick’s death, our thoughts are with you as we will be unable to attend the funeral.
Lisa, please could either you or George send me an email address so that I can send you a photo of the wall hanging I made from your Mum's funeral memorial card.
Their memories will live on in our hearts and memories.
