Passed away peacefully on February 17, 2024 surrounded by his family. Aged 87 years.

Loving husband of Jocelyn for 60 years.

An awesome dad and mate of Dean and Jackie; Ronda; and Kathryn and Maurice.

Special grandad of Rebecca, and Aidan; John, Tom, and Ben; Sofia, Katelin, and Zara

Kickoff will be at the Graham Lowe Pavilion, McLean Park, Latham Street, Napier today Wednesday 21 February at 2pm. Followed by a private cremation. In lieu of flowers a donation to dementia.nz/hawkes-bay/get-involved-hawkes-bay/ would be appreciated.

So sorry for your loss. John was a knight in shining armour in the good old days at Tutira. A well respected man, a kind and gentle man, and from a kids perspective - great with us kids.

I have lots of fond memories that have surfaced from the 70’s - Saturday tennis matches at Putirino school, drinks in the carpark at the Waikare hotel, and the dinner parties us kids attended with our parents to each others houses - so much fun! Dressing up and making up dances and moves to ABBA, Neil Diamond, John Travolta and the Bee Gees, to name a few, we always had a good night, as much fun as the adults I think and sometimes they joined in - a great buzz for us kids. My Dad and John doing karaoke to John Rowles or someone similar (‘Please Release me’ comes to
Mind!) Very happy memories. ???? We were always disappointed to have to go home, and sometimes there were sleep overs, but we always knew the next dinner party was just around the corner and us kids would be hanging out together again.

I was too young to remember John playing rugby but my Dad says he was a legend and a real team player, as well as a right laugh!

A great loss to both your family and the community, my thoughts are with you all at this sensitive time, and sad as it is, so many happy memories from my childhood have been made with John and you all in them, so thankyou for that.

May your hearts be healed in time and may the memories last forever.

We are so saddened by the passing of John. Our love and thoughts are with you Jocelyn and your family. We have beautiful memories of you both and your extreme kindness to us as your house sitters for many years. So sorry we can't be with you.
