Passed away peacefully on 9 January 2014, aged 90.

Dearly loved wife of Jack (dec), mother of Paddy and John (dec).

Much loved Nana of Rebecca and Chris and mother-in-law of Ann, Vivienne and Sue.

A fighter till the end, Mum, but now at rest with your beloved Jack.

A service to celebrate Dorothy’s life was held at the St Patrick’s Catholic Church, Munroe Street, Napier on Monday January 13, 2014. Followed by private cremation. 

I was sad to learn of Dorothy's passing. She was a friendly, happy lady. To endorse the tributes from Kevin Reed and Jane Allen, Dorothy was a special lady, and we met regularly at my Aunt's house (Cathie Reed). After my aunt passed away, I visited Dorothy often at her home and then at "Gladys Mary" Care Home. She always greeted me with a smile and welcome. She was proud of her family and loved to give me news of them. Rest In Peace Dorothy.

Mrs Guthrie was a special teacher to me when I started at Nelson Park School in 1961. She always had a smile & a kind word even when I saw her in subsequent years. Mrs. Guthrie still holds a special place in my heart.

I have fond memories of Dorothy at Henry Hill School, early 1970s. She was friendly and very supportive to the 'young staff'. She brightened the staffroom with her infectious laugh.

Dorothy was a stalwart of St. Patrick's Parish Napier - and in her retirement from teaching was involved with many parish activities, e.g. Catholic Women's League, the Friday Prayer Group, Renew, the Sisters of Our Lady of the Missions Circle, the Passionist Family Group Movement, as well as being a daily Mass Communicant and a Lector at the Sunday Masses. She had a great circle of friends in the Parish and will be sadly missed by us all.
She was also a devoted "Saturday" girl at the St. Vincent de Paul Op Shop for many years, along with her colleagues Margaret Minehan, Joan McNeece and Francie Johnston - lots of fun and laughter and 'putting the world' to rights, as well as serving the needy.
Rest in peace, Dorothy, with your beloved Jack and John.

Please accept my prayers for 'Mrs Guthrie'. She was a good friend of my mother (Cathie Reed) and frequent visitor to our home. I enjoyed her company, her wit, her smile, her stories and her 'coconut ice' that she would make just for me when I was in Napier. Mrs Guthrie is a special lady with a heart of gold and a smile to match; I have fond memories of her.
Sad to hear of her passing and proud to have known her. I am sure she will rest in peace.
