There are rare moments in life in which you will come across somebody remarkable. Not only in terms of talent or ability, but a spark behind the eyes that reveals something more: a sincere vigour for life. Alix was one of those people. She wasn't afraid to be an individual. She cared about her family and friends in a way that was selfless and genuine. She showed me what it meant to make the most of every opportunity, and to pursue meaningful things with a light heart.
I knew her and Dail best through primary school & intermediate years (when Alix beat me in every possible athletics event, smashed all of us with tennis balls playing 'Duck Shooting', and invited me to her house to rollerblade and save starfish at the estuary), but we kept in touch over the years and every time we spoke I saw the same zealous spirit that she had as a kid. Unlike a lot of people I know, she never lost her childhood spark.
Alix lived a life that was short but whole, and I believe that in her passing she has bid us all to live with the same vigour that she did. I for one am going to try. No man has owned yesterday or tomorrow; all we will ever have is today.
Dail, Tess, Henry, Rae, Tracey and family: best wishes for your time of healing. You can be so proud of Alix and the wonderful family that you have.
All my love,
Kelsi
